Vassalboro

Vassalboro is a rural Kennebec County town between Waterville and Augusta, along the east side of the Kennebec River. It takes in the villages of North Vassalboro, East Vassalboro, and Riverside, and most of the town is a mix of farmland, woods, and quiet country roads. For a lot of buyers it hits the sweet spot: room to spread out, with both cities only about 20 minutes away.

Water is a big part of life here. The east basin of China Lake and Webber Pond both touch Vassalboro, and Outlet Stream runs through North Vassalboro, where restoration work has brought alewives back to China Lake. The historic mill in North Vassalboro is a reminder of the town's woolen mill roots, and local trails make it easy to get outside for walking, snowshoeing, and fishing.

Housing in Vassalboro runs from older farmhouses and capes to newer ranches on larger lots, plus camps and year-round homes on the water and plenty of open land for building. Younger students attend Vassalboro Community School (K-8). The town does not operate its own high school, so older students typically attend nearby high schools such as Erskine Academy in South China.
